Lead Coffins
03:26
|
|||
Forces they summoned in Chernobyl:
A might to split the atom
And a power to rival
The great host of light.
On the eve of May 2nd,
A flaming gate to Hell there opened,
Sinking and burning through the floor
In a collision course with Styx,
The price was decided, the sum paid
And three damned souls did cross the Styx
To drain its source and bleed it dry,
That river no one crosses
Without paying toll.
Unsung heroes, they, who gave their lives
To bargain Hades for the millions
Who would never know their names.
“No one will ever know
The sacrifice we made,
No statues in our name,
No ticker tape parade,
And we can only pray,
It wasn’t all in vain.”
Darker and darker their skin grew,
As it fell off their withering flesh.
Buried in lead coffins,
The lids soldered shut;
Their very bodies now weapons of death.
And the count went up by three:
Bezpalov and Baranov, Ananenko.

Tyrant Sovereign
03:01
|
|||
Tyrant Sovereign,
Scorned be thy name.
Heir apparent
To a kingdom of disgrace.
He reigns with iron fist
An isolated state,
Controlling propaganda;
A people kept in the dark,
Informing on each other,
Fearing for their lives.
Every unique thought a crime
Against the Leader Supreme.
Tyrant Sovereign,
Scorned be thy name.
Heir apparent
To a kingdom of disgrace.
Rooting out entire families
For the infractions of one,
In prison camps of untold horror
That none dare to speak of.
A people deprived of the notion of self,
Impoverished and destitute, with no hope for revolt.
Tyrant Sovereign,
Scorned be thy name.
Heir apparent
To a kingdom of disgrace.

Kwade Tocht
05:21
|
|||
Wintermorgen.
De weg lag verscholen,
In mist gehuld.
De lucht hing stil,
Als in afwachting
Van een verschrikking.
In Vreeswijk
Zou hij vrij zijn —
Een prijs hing op zijn hoofd
En ballingschap
Was al wat hem restte.
Zo koud, zo stil, zo eenzaam
Dit verloren oord,
Waar zelfs geen vogel zong.
De haren in zijn nek
Vertelde hem wat zijn hart
Nog niet kon aanvaarden:
Dit was waar hij zou sterven.
Dwalend door de nevels,
Het pad al lang verloren,
In stilte biddend.
Een duizeling,
Een golf van verslagenheid,
Een ijskoude rilling,
En daar stond zijn doem.
“O duivel, o Satan, verleider,
Spaar toch mijn ziel!”
Een wanhopige bede.
“Gij die de Bijbel schuwt,
Waarom heeft ge angst?
Hier heeft Hij geen macht.”
“Kom, volg, mijn zoon, mijn bode.
Jouw werk hier is reeds voldaan.
De hemel zal ons niet dulden,
Maar wij hebben haar niet nodig.
Ten zuiden van de horizon,
Daar maken wij ons thuis.”

Vervloekte Waag
04:35
|
|||
Vervloekte waag,
Die eens het lot bezegelde
Van moeders en dochters;
Werktuig van zeloten en sollicitanten;
Gekunstelde schalen maken

Gesloten in Steen
04:37
|
|||
Daar in de Buurkerk,
Daar zat zij, Suster Bertken,
Gesloten in steen.
Daar keek zij uit
Op het leven dat zij liet.
Daar keek zij inwaards,
Naar de vrede van de dood.
Daar in de muren,
Daar zat zij, vrouwe Gods,
Gevangen in steen.
Daar keerde zij zich af
Van het leven dat slechts ledig was.
Daar wendde zij zich
Tot de eeuwigheid van de dood.
